I've spent years looking for a community of women who are moms, business owners, and somewhere in the middle of this whole midlife adventure. And let me tell you, it's surprisingly hard to find. There are plenty of mom groups, but most seem to revolve around babies, nap schedules, and starting a business during naptime. Then there are the entrepreneur groups, where everyone seems to be waking up at 5 a.m., time blocking every minute of their day, and talking about scaling to seven figures. Meanwhile, I'm over here trying to run a business, figure out why my teenager has another random Tuesday off from school, and remember to file my LLC annual report. I've met some incredible women along the way who feel exactly the same way, but I kept wondering why there wasn't a community specifically for midlife mompreneurs like us. Women who understand that motherhood doesn't magically get easier when the kids get older, that running a business doesn't mean we have our entire lives figured out, and that sometimes we just want someone to talk to who gets both sides of our lives.
The other thing I've noticed is how much of the conversation around women in midlife revolves around reinventing ourselves. Starting over, finding our next chapter, building something bigger. And listen, if that's what you want to do, I'm all for it. But what if we're actually pretty happy with the businesses we've built? What if we're not looking for another coach, another course, or another networking event where everyone spends the entire time trying to sell each other something? What if we just want some damn friends? Women we can talk to about business wins, teenagers, aging parents, perimenopause, marriage, divorce, and whatever else life decides to throw at us that week. A place where we can celebrate the good stuff, complain about the ridiculous stuff, and have conversations that don't always end with someone trying to sell us a solution. Because being a mom and being an entrepreneur are both huge parts of who we are, but neither one is our entire identity. And I think it's about time we had a community that recognizes that.
So after years of looking for exactly that, I've decided to build the damn thing myself. Midlife Mompreneurs is starting with this podcast, where we'll have honest, funny, sometimes completely unfiltered conversations about business, motherhood, midlife, and everything in between. But the bigger vision is a community where women can actually get to know each other, with virtual gatherings, in-person meetups, friendships, fun experiences, and yes, even a conference. Because I don't think we need another place telling us how to become better, more productive versions of ourselves. I think we need a place where we can show up exactly as we are, whether we're celebrating a business milestone or just trying to survive another school spirit week. I don't have every detail figured out yet, and I'm learning some of this as I go. But I know I'm not the only woman looking for something like this. And if you've ever found yourself wishing you had a group of women who understood both your business and your life outside of it, well, maybe we've finally found each other.
